How did I let it get to this point? I much rather watch TV than listen to music, but TV doesn't fill any kind of void, it merely helps me pass the time. Music on the other hand, has the power to change my mood and attitude about life from the first note I hear to the last. What is it about music that gives it such power to evoke emotions in all of us? Certain songs can make me cry on cue, simply because they remind me of a time, or place or special person in my life. I often cry while driving, when I hear a song that reminds me of something special and deeply personal.
Some songs are universally loved and can make the most uptight person get up and dance. We've all seen it at weddings. Uncle Jim, who never dances, suddenly gets up to dance to the Village People's YMCA. Everyone with their hands in the air, waving them like they just don't care, sharing a special moment in time that will never be seen again. Music makes the world go round and brings stadiums of people together all at once.
Currently I, along with my BFF, are working on our top ten love songs of all time. We have different tastes in music but have come up with a list that I think will be agreed upon by many. These songs help to convey love between two people. Not all of us are gifted with the ability to write beautiful poetry or lyrics but we can listen to a song, feel a connection to it and allow it to take us away to a much better place.
